I just woke up from a nap. While napping, I had a dream that Pete and I were in a haunted house where we rescued some really tiny baby storks, then Pete wrote a dissertation, then we had bubble tea. All in all, it was the most successful haunted house visit, ever.

I love those episodes of "Intervention" where the entire family pours out gut-wrenching proclamations of unending love mixed with threats and intimidation, and then the person yells back at everybody and feelings are rubbed raw to the point where they're finally able to get to the "real issues", and then everybody's crying and the 'intervenee' finally says "Ok I'll go" and then there's a giant group hug as they're all standing in a 2" deep puddle of their collective tears on the floor of the hotel conference room, and a unicorn flies overhead leaving a rainbow trail of cupcakes behind it while waving a banner that reads "Everything is Totally Going to be Okay!", and then we see them pack their bags and head off into the loving bosom of the treatment center where they will finally get the help they so deseperately need, and then in the last 2 seconds of the show the screen goes black and reads "KAREN COMPLETELY RELAPSED AFTER 2 DAYS OF TREATMENT AND IS CURRENTLY A COKE WHORE LIVING ON THE STREETS OF SAN BERNARDINO"

Machine Gun Joe

I kind of can't stop playing this terrible Sega Master System game called "Machine Gun Joe" or maybe it's called "Comical Machine Gun Joe" or something. It's really awful, but I can't stop playing it. You play a little dude who shoots a gun (oddly, NOT a machine gun) at some bad guys. When you shoot them they turn into a little tiny dude and run at you and try to grab onto you. I thought I was supposed to collect them at first, like they were little helpers or something, but then I figured out they actually make it harder for you to jump. Sometimes a pig runs by and if you shoot it it will give you a bomb that you can use to kill everybody. Also sometimes there's a spider in the middle of the screen that blocks all of your shots. You start out in a harbor, and I guess there's different levels or something, but I wouldn't know because it's so freaking hard I can't make it past the first screen yet. The guys seriously run on screen and shoot directly at you, so you've only got a split second to either shoot them first or jump out of the way. This means I have yet to make it to the "Fairyland" screen shown in the demo. Anyway, this game is amazing.

I get sent a lot of demo recordings, either by other DJ's who want to test out their tracks, or people who are pitching various remix ideas to me, or people who are just starting making music and want some feedback on their stuff.

I listen to everything that I get sent, but sometimes it doesn't happen for a few weeks. I have a folder called "Demos", and I'm going through it today and literally have files in it with names like "demo_6.mp3" and I have no clue what I'm listening to. If you don't put your name in the file name, I will forget what it is.

Movies

I just recently re-subscribed to Netflix because I don't feel like paying the cable company 20 bucks a month so I can watch network TV and because I'm completely addicted to "Lost" but also don't feel like buying Season 4.

So, first few days of new Netflix subscription: I watched the first disk of Lost Season 4 (OMG! Ben is the puppetmaster!) and "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans." I now realise that since the mega thrifty garage sale girl in me (90% of my body mass, for the curious) knows that the more movies I watch in the least amount of time possible, the better the deal is - my movie watching standards get lower. I will watch just about ANYTHING on Netflix just to keep the movies coming as fast as possible. My queue is currently weighing in at over 70 disks - and that's just because I haven't logged in since Thursday.

Note: If anyone comments on this post and tells me what happens next in Lost, I will hunt you down and kill you. This does not mean I do not love you.

Another Note: By "I will watch anything on Netflix," I mean anything that does not have Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, or Jim Carrey in it. Or anything that looks really, REALLY lame. Which is actually quite a lot. Maybe my standards haven't lowered as much as I thought they did. Of course, I'm still going to watch the most recent "Mummy" movie even though it looks pretty awful... hmm...

Seattle

This weekend I went to Seattle, where I:

- DJ'd happy hardcore at a Pokemon-themed rave for many teenagers
- Due to a hotel reservation snafu, ending up sleeping alone in a suite with *5 beds*
- Went to "hempfest" to watch our good friend Goa Constrictor play a rockin' set - Music was awesome but I can safely say I'd be perfectly fine without ever going to this event again
- Went to a drag show run by old friends I haven't seen in at least 10 years

Needless to say, every trip to Seattle for me winds up being incredibly surreal.

On Tuesday, my kittens Nimbly and Pimbly (who aren't actually kittens any more, but retain their title) decided to rip a hole in the drywall in my bathroom. Pimbly hung out under the tub until we discovered her shenanigans, but Nimbly decided to go all the way. He discovered a hole to under the very floor of the house itself! How thrilling! Then he spent 45 minutes taunting Tater and me before he allowed himself to be caught and brought back inside like a normal kitty.

The moral of this story is: cats are destructive jerks.

Moving is hard!

For almost two weeks now, Tater and I have been trying to move in to our new place that we bought that is ours that we will live in (we're very excited about this.) However, everything takes SO. MUCH. LONGER. than you think it will. Since 2 weekends ago, I have repainted the kitchen, replaced all the knobs on my cabinets, ripped out the old bathroom sink & counter, ripped out two walls and part of the floor in the bathroom, replaced the sink two walls and part of the floor, replaced the innards in the back of the toilet, picked up all the random bits of junk that were left in our yard, and of course cleaned everything. Despite my initial optimism on the amount of time these "small repairs" would take - we're still not moved in. I can, however, gladly report that we are ready to move in. Sure, there might be a little bit of exposed plywood left in the bathroom, and don't even get me started on moulding - but it's livable. There's no leaks, drips, holes, or mold!

Also, I have some FANTASTIC news:

Long long long ago, our website used to be "peroxidemocha.com". I'm not sure how much Rachel wants me to say, but due to an unfortunate error involving somebody that wasn't either of us, the domain name did not get re-registered. This was probably some time in... 2000? It immediately got purchased by a cyber-squatter. Hence why we've had a hyphenated domain name for so long. We tried in vain for many years to track when it would expire so we could get it back, only to have them renew it at the last possible minute. This last time around they actually tracked us down and contacted us, making a last ditch effort to extort and unreasonable amount of money from us to get our domain name back. We wisely ignored it. I just checked it again today and to my surprise it was AVAILABLE! I GOT IT! I GOT IT BACK! WE OWN PEROXIDEMOCHA.COM AGAIN!!!!!

I haven't re-directed it yet but I will keep you all posted and hopefully very soon it will be working again. Hurrah!

Tuesday is superior to Monday in pretty much every way imaginable. If I were still in Portland, today would be Special Chicken day, but since I'm no longer in Portland (sad face!) I packed a chicken sammich for lunch.

I'm really looking forward to moving in to my own place this weekend - I kind of feel like a kid who is about to go off to college. Whee! I wish I still had some of my posters from college, that would rule.

I just had a really great weekend which of course must be followed up by a singularly irritating Monday morning.

Friday night Tater and I drove 6 hours north to our nation's capitol, where my Mom is doing some kind of convention / teaching / grant reviewing thing. I'm fuzzy on the details, but I do know that if your mom is anywhere within 12 hours of you and you haven't seen her for 7 months and you have any kind of relationship with her at all, you should probably go see her. So we did, and had a pretty great time in the 14 hours we were there - we saw the White House, the Washington Monument, and a tiny little corner of the Smithsonian.

Sunday we drove around some more and hung out with friends at a friend of a friend's mansion. At first I was completely awe-struck my the sheer magnitude of the house, but then the anal-retentive practical part of my brain kicked in and I decided that I really wouldn't enjoy living in a huge house - but, visiting one sure is fun.

So basically, my weekend pretty much reached the maximum capacity of driving and having fun - victory!

This morning I noticed that the company that I have my old retirement fund with sent me a letter on Saturday - what could it be? Turns out that the forms I sent them almost 3 weeks ago weren't form-y enough or something and they couldn't process my request to send me money. Money that I need... TODAY. I called them up, spent 10 minutes trying to reach a human being (which is normally something I'm quite adept at - but their phone tree was extra specially guarded against human interaction) only to find out that the letter was sent in error. Thank goodness! However, they still hadn't processed my request: in fact, I can just forget about seeing that money until at least Friday. Why? Because apparently "7-10 business days" translates to "12-14 business days plus some more just because" if you're a large financial institution. JOY! Hopefully, it really does come on Friday and I can move in to my new place this weekend.

I really wish I had some tea.

I'm serious, I can't get enough of it. It is pink and fruity and delicious. If you get it unsweetened I think it has very few, or possibly no calories. I don't know, does tea have calories? I don't think so.

Well, technically it's a "tisane", as a co worker once pointed out to me.

Alright, I looked it up. NO calories. You can get a big venti one and not feel guilty about it. I should probably buy a box of it and make a big pitcher.

I really like it when sombody says "I'll bet you donuts to dollars" - where does that even come from? I like donuts though.

Oh, me too - but not quite as much as dollars, to be honest.
If you were to pay someone to do something you could easily do yourself, what would it be and why?

I really, really hate cleaning the bathroom. It's not that it's difficult, it's just gross and I'm lazy and it usually slips pretty far down the priority list. When I'm rich and famous I will hire a "bathroom consultant" (that exists right?) to come clean and organize my bathroom once a week and make sure it is well stocked with toiletries, color coordinated towels, soap, etc and always smelled nice. Like gingerbread or something.

That sounds really great! You're going to be really good at being rich and famous.
If you could only smell 5 smells for the rest of your life, what would they be?

Pete: Hi Rachel! Thanks for agreeing to do this interview for our blog. So, what did you have for breakfast this morning?

Rachel: I had some delicious "Tastee Ohs" for breakfast this morning, which are in no way, shape, or form to be confused with the famous General Mill's brand breakfast cereal, "Cheerios."

Were they delicious? Did you eat the recommended serving size? Where did you purchase said "Tastee Ohs"?

Yes, they were very delicious and satisfying because I ate an amount that was probably two or three times the recommended serving size. Have you ever measured an exact serving size of cereal before? It's insanely small.

I believe that Tastee Ohs can be found at your friendly local Dollar General in the breakfast foods aisle.

What other fabulous treasures can you find at the Dollar General?

Besides amazing bargains on whole grains? Well, let's see... I'm pretty sure you can also buy roach bait and beautiful garden "decorations" at the Dollar General. I hear some people also buy things like toilet paper and shampoo there.

Let's say you're having a party this weekend. All of your co-workers are coming over. What would be the 3 worst choices of board game to play at said party?

Does Twister count as a board game? That's a game I absolutely would not want to play with my co-workers. As for standard board games, I think the worst choices would be Charades, Parcheesi, and this Garfield board game that I loved when I was a kid, but probably isn't the best now that I'm all grown up.

Isn't that always the way it works though? You enjoy something as a kid, and then as an adult you see it again and you think "wow, this is really lame. I really thought I was smarter than that as a child." But you weren't. Nobody was. What else did you enjoy as a youth that you now think is ridiculous and stupid as a grown-up?

When I was in 4th grade, I read way too many "Sweet Valley High" books and decided that if I was going to be cool at all in middle school I was going to have to start my own club. So I made baseball-style cards with cardboard and pictures I cut out of a Horse Fancy magazine and started my own horse club. I really don't know what the cards had to do with anything, or why I picked horses to be the central theme of my oh-so-exclusive club. I think 3 or 4 of my friends joined, though.

I also used to play my own version of MASH, but instead of using it as a magical charm to figure out who I was going to marry and what kind of car we'd drive, I put numbers, colors, and body parts on the board. So I'd get results like "You're going to live in a Hut and have 4 blue arms!"

Magical. If there was a Peroxide Mocha Saturday morning cartoon, what would the plot be?

I imagine it would probably star Pete and Rachel and their magical recording studio. An evil villain would always be trying to sneak in and steal their records, but would be foiled at the last minute by Pete & Rachel's wacky antics.

What's the evil villain's name?

I'm trying to think of something really clever, but nothing's happening. Perhaps he'd be a Nameless Villain, referred to only as "The Mean Guy."

What advice do you have for aspiring young musicians who look up to you and want to be like Peroxide Mocha?

Never try to be anything that you're not. Be kind to people. You don't have to be cool.

Well, I moved, and so did Pete. He's now back in Portland, and I'm in North Carolina.

Other than the fact that I'm ONCE AGAIN 3,500 miles away from my BFF, life is pretty good out here. There's lots of delicious meats to eat and everyone is always frying stuff that normally just gets steamed or even left raw. If you are a vegetarian, I don't recommend living anywhere south of the Mason-Dixon: there's pig meat in absolutely everything here. I'm not even kidding.

But for seriously-reals, things are good. I'm working at a newspaper, just like a modern-day Lois Lane, but with more spreadsheets and less falling into giant pits or being captured by villains. Can't complain, really.

Speaking of how amazingly great everything in the whole world is, Pete and I are committing ourselves to be more dilligent in updating this blog and maybe even making some new friends.

Sorry we have been so quiet lately right after the release of our album, but Rachel and I both have a ton of things going on these days and you know how life sometimes just gets in the way. I'm still adjusting to life in San Francisco, and Rachel has made a move to the other side of the country for a while. We've done this countless times before though, and thanks to the miracle of the internet we aren't going to disappear or anything.

So! Making Out With Strangers is now out in various digital music shops including iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, CDBaby or whatever shop you usually buy music from. If there's some digital shop that doesn't have it and you think we should sell it there, please let us know! We had a few pro-duplicated CD-Rs printed with full color printing and nice inserts with lyrics and everything - they look really super awesome. I just started mailing them out to radio and mags and such this week. We've got some available for purchase from the donut nook records shop too, and they're on their way to CDBaby right now in case you'd rather purchase from there.

We're getting a lot of cool remixes back now and have a couple single/promo/EP things planned with some b-sides and whatnot - we'll be announcing that very shortly.

3) We've done a couple of nice remixes for other people (I know! Peroxide Mocha! Remixing!) and those should be on their way out the door soon, or possibly later, or not at all.

Holy wow. I can't believe that the album is actually done. Like, I mean, done done. And all official and everything. Rachel and I have literally been working on this one for a little over three years total. No matter how many other things I've had going on over the last 3 years, this album has always been on my mind as my #1 priority and now I'm sitting here with all the mastered tracks in-hand, which sound amazing (thank you Jeremy!), all our songs are now published (Hot And Awkward Music/Unicorn Factory, ASCAP, for those keeping track), I've licensed our cover tune (a surprise!) and the cover art is finished. It is literally COMPLETED and the only thing I have left to do is review it all one last time, then set up the album with CDBaby tonight, and drop it in the mail.

Did you know...?
I live in a house with no heat. Yes! It is true. No heat. Just a sad little woodstove.
So, when I came home to a freezing house and a hungry grandpa, I decided the best food I could make in such a situation would be chili. YES. Unfortunately, not only do we not have heat, we're also out of milk, tomato sauce, cheese, crackers, and all the dishes are dirty.
Short story long, I just made chili with tomato bits and corn. It was surprisingly delicious, but now I'm very thirsty. Thank god we have well water.
