boo.

I have a cold and I'm miserable, so I guess we won't be recording "Girls On Film" this weekend. That sucks.

I'm consoling myself by watching horrible butt-rock videos on youtube. Did you know that the girl in the "Cherry Pie" video by Warrant is named Bobbie Jean Brown, and that's her one claim to fame? She never did anything even close to that significant ever again.

In other news, my cat bite is healing nicely. CAT BITE.

My I.D

Dear miserable elderly cashier at Anzen: Please don't break my ID in half trying to determine if it's fake or not. First, there's no way in hell I look underage, and secondly if I was going to buy alcohol with a fake ID it's not going to be a $5 bottle of sake.

Some Words About Sending Me Demos

I get sent a lot of demo recordings, either by other DJ's who want to test out their tracks, or people who are pitching various remix ideas to me, or people who are just starting making music and want some feedback on their stuff.

I listen to everything that I get sent, but sometimes it doesn't happen for a few weeks. I have a folder called "Demos", and I'm going through it today and literally have files in it with names like "demo_6.mp3" and I have no clue what I'm listening to. If you don't put your name in the file name, I will forget what it is.

Put your name in the file name of the mp3.
Put your name in the file name of the mp3.
Put your name in the file name of the mp3.

Thank you!

Well Hello There!

I was just thinking about one-hit-wonders and how amazingly terrible they can be. What is your favorite worst one-hit-wonder ever? Here's a couple of mine:

Where Is My Boyfriend?

Tater has been outside for a really really long time. I have no idea why.

Also, do you know about cooperative snapping? Let us show you.

Give me Killer B's

What could possibly be more awesome than a video for Killer B's?

Nothing, that's what.

More costume ideas

Here's some other great Halloween costume ideas I've had kicking around, since Rachel decided to share hers. Feel free to steal any of these:

Shirttails
Bowl of Soup
Disneyland
Braille
Giant Parsnip
A Shed
The Internet
The lady from the cover of "Whipped Cream and Other Delights" by Herb Albert & The Tijuana Brass

Also, some bonus costume ideas going with Rachel's sexy theme:
Sexy Construction Worker
Sexy Doula
Sexy Copy Editor
Sexy Giraffe
Sexy Rodeo Clown
Sexy Cardboard Box
Sexy Helen Keller

LPs

Today at work I'm listening to the soothing sounds of Martin Denny's Exotica. I have it ripped to my computer in mp3 format, but I've also got the LP at home. If you don't own a copy of this, I highly recommend heading to your nearest Salvation Army Thrift Shop and picking one up now. It'll be in the third stack from the right, behind the torn up copies of Herb Albert & The Tijuana Brass' "Whipped Cream And Other Delights", which I'm convinced everybody in the 60's must have owned 10 copies of.

Seriously. This record is in Spectra-Sonic Sound. Mindblowing.

Sexy!

Hey, when I said I was going to update more often, I was not lying.

I just realized that it's almost Halloween again! Holy shit! I think this means we need to bring back the "Sexy Halloween Costume" theme posts.

As I'm sure you recall, loyal reader, last year around this time we compiled lists of Halloween costumes that may or may not be funny when you put the word "sexy" in front of them. Now, without looking at last years (do you like that? That's my way of deniability in the event of a repeat) list - here are some Very Sexy, Very Special Halloween Costume Ideas:

Sexy Cable Installer
Sexy Dog Catcher
Sexy Business Manager (I dress like this every day)
Sexy Tech Support Drone
Sexy Knitter
Sexy Kool-Aid Guy
Sexy Sweat Shop Employee
Sexy Customer Service Representative
Sexy Grammar Nazi
Sexy Blogger
Sexy Welder (Flashdance?)
Sexy Valet

10,000 BFF points to anyone who actually makes one of these costumes and sends me photos.

Internets!

I finally moved boldly into the 20th century and have gotten INTERNETS in my HOUSE.

I know, I know, what took me so long? Mostly I didn't want to pay the Rat Bastard Cable Company, and besides that two of my neighbors have unsecured wifi. Password protection is your friend if you don't want to be "feeding" (providing free internet to) all of the "feral cats" (freeloading neighbors), yo!

Anyhow, I cross my heart hope to die stick a needle in my eye I will update this blog more often now.

Songs from the Internet

Is there anything better than other people's homemade Songs From The Internet? The answer is a resounding NO. Here are some other things I'm enjoying right now.

"Combination Pizza Hut & Taco Bell" by Das Racist

A chip-crunk-fidget-house-booty-rap anthem that I'm surprised hasn't been adopted by the dubstep community yet.

"Shit'n On You Hoe" by Geisha 305

Thanks to the Matts of Microfilm and Davitron for passing this along. All homegirl needs is an 808 and a camcorder. I'm enjoying this 100% unironically, I promise. Catchy!

"Havin' A Time" by Donnie Dumphy

Passed along from Badinia - there's nothing quite like watching something filled with nothing but inside jokes only someone from Newfoundland would get!

Hair

I really hate bus rides when somebody else is doing something that invades your space. Usually it's them coughing or the fact that they smell like pee, but lately for me it's been women (or men on occasion) with looooooong hair sitting on the seat in front of me, oblivious to the location and positioning of their hair, and I'm talking about hair long enough that's it's sitting in my lap and our touching my coffee.

Is there anything grosser than other people's nasty hair touching you on the bus?

Microfilm "Blips Don't Lie" EP!!

Our good friends and Chicago->Portland translants Microfilm just released a fantastic new EP called "Blips Don't Lie" - It's a "Triple A Side" single of dark, slickly produced electro pop, and some of it super 80's freestyle inspired. I did the remix of their song "His N Hers Hibernation". The EP also features Del Marquis of the Scissor Sisters, and Sarah Nixey from Black Box Recorder. It's out now in iTunes and Amazon, or you can get it directly from the band at www.microfilmmusic.com.

You'll hear more from Microfilm soon, as they just finished up an absolutely stunning remix of our song "Port Angeles" that we'll be putting on our remix album very very soon!
